Dairy free, Egg free, Gluten Free, Nut free, Soy free
About the recipe
These homemade gelatin gummies are a nourishing, gut-supportive snack for babies, kids, and adults—made with just two ingredients and your liquid of choice. A simple, protein-rich base recipe that’s endlessly customisable!
Looking for a fun, nourishing snack that supports gut and immune health for the whole family? These easy homemade gelatin gummies are a fantastic base recipe you can adapt endlessly. Using just two ingredients and your liquid of choice—like coconut milk, leftover purée, or fresh juice—these gummies are a quick, protein-rich snack for adults and a fun finger food for babies learning to self-feed.
The best part? You can use almost any liquid or smoothie you have on hand—just avoid pineapple, kiwi, and papaya, as their natural enzymes prevent the gelatin from setting properly. From fruit purées to kefir, bone broth, or even breastmilk, this recipe is endlessly customisable to suit your needs.
The basic ratio is simple: 1 tablespoon of gelatin for every 100ml of liquid. From there, you can play with flavours, colours, and nutrients—think berry purée for antioxidants, coconut milk for healthy fats, or broth for a savoury option packed with minerals.
Tips + Notes
-
For younger babies, pour into a shallow glass dish and cut into safe, finger-sized strips once set.
-
If you prefer a softer gummy, reduce the ratio to ½ TBSP gelatin per 100ml liquid.
-
Thicker liquids (like coconut cream or smoothies) will naturally yield a softer texture.
-
Leftover baby purée makes a great base for a nutrient-packed gummy snack.
Why Gelatin?
Gelatin is a source of gut-loving collagen and amino acids that help support digestion, immunity, skin, and joint health. It’s particularly helpful for growing babies and tired mums alike—supporting healthy tummies, strong bones, and immune resilience.
Storage
-
Store in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 4 days
-
❌ Not freezer friendly—texture changes once defrosted
Age Appropriate
✅ From 6 months+, once on one solid meal per day
Ingredients
400ml liquid of choice (smoothies, milk, juice, purée*)
4 TBSP grass-fed gelatin
Method
Add the liquid to a small saucepan and sprinkle the gelatin over the top.
Let sit for a few minutes to ‘bloom’—it’ll look a little wrinkly and begin to thicken.
Gently heat the pan over low heat, stirring until the gelatin has fully dissolved.
Pour into silicone moulds or a glass container (lined with baking paper if needed).
Let cool slightly at room temp (10–15 mins helps prevent spills), then transfer to the fridge for at least 2 hours to fully set.
Once set, remove and store as needed.
*Note: Avoid pineapple, kiwi and papaya, as they contain enzymes that prevent the gummies from setting.
