When it comes to introducing meat to your baby, chicken is a wonderful place to start. It’s mild in flavour, rich in protein and iron, and easy to serve in a safe and developmentally appropriate way.
This simple poached chicken is a BLW favourite in our home. The coconut milk helps tenderise the meat, making it soft enough to chew on.
Poaching is also a great way to retain nutrients and moisture—no dry, stringy chicken here! You can also blend it with a little poaching liquid and/or some steamed vegetables to create a creamy iron-rich purée if your little one is being spoon-fed.
Age suitable:
Suitable from 6 months+ as a first food. Serve as soft strips for baby-led weaning or blend with poaching liquid and/or steamed vegetables until smooth for a purée.
Storage tips:
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days
- Can be frozen for up to 3 months – freeze in small portions with a little poaching liquid to retain moisture
