Berry Kefir Iceblocks
Calcium rich, Egg free, Gluten Free, Nut free, Soy free, Vegetarian
About the recipe
These kefir ice-blocks are one of my favourite warm-weather snacks for little ones. They’re refreshing, nourishing, and so simple to make – just blend, freeze, and enjoy. And as a bonus, the kefir adds a beautiful boost of probiotics to support little tummies. They’re also a wonderful option for teething babies who want something cold to chomp on but still need gentle, nourishing ingredients.
Age Appropriate
8 months + (or when tolerating dairy)
Omit maple syrup under 24 months (it is safe to have younger however they don’t need added the sugars).
Notes for Serving BLW
For babies, I recommend freezing the mixture in silicone feeders to reduce choking risk and minimise large breakaway chunks. They also allow babies to self-feed safely and slowly while soothing sore gums.
Storage for Freezer and Fridge
Store the ice-blocks in their moulds or transfer to an airtight freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Keep frozen until ready to serve.
Ingredients
2 cups frozen strawberry slices
1 cup frozen mango chunks
1 cup plain whole milk kefir or coconut kefir
1-2 TBSP maple syrup (omit for babies under 24 months)
Method
Add all ingredients to a blender and blend on high until smooth.
Pour the mixture into ice-block moulds and freeze for at least 3 hours or until fully set.
For babies, spoon the mixture into silicone feeders.
