Crispy on the outside, soft and cheesy on the inside—these sweet potato fritters are a quick, nourishing option for babies, toddlers, and the whole family. Packed with carbs, protein, and calcium, they’re ideal for little ones moving beyond purées and exploring more textured meals.

Lightly pan-fried and easy to batch, these fritters are a great finger food, lunchbox filler, or speedy weeknight side—and yes, they freeze well too!

Serving Suggestions:

Storage:
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze individually on a tray, then transfer to a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Reheat in a pan, oven or air fryer until warmed through and crispy.

Ingredients

200g grated sweet potato
2 eggs
45g grated cheese of choice (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)
2 tablespoons flour of choice (spelt, plain, or GF blend)
1 garlic clove
2 tablespoons cooking oil or fat (like ghee, coconut oil or EVOO)

Method

Peel and grate the sweet potato, then place it into a bowl of cold water for about one minute—this helps wash away excess starch and gives a better texture. Drain well and pat dry using a clean tea towel.

In a separate bowl, crack in the eggs and whisk well. Add the grated sweet potato and cheese to the bowl. Finely grate or chop the garlic and add it in along with the flour.

Mix everything together until well combined.

Preheat a frying pan over medium heat and add your cooking oil or fat of choice.

Once hot, scoop the mixture into the pan to form fritters, flattening each one gently with the back of a spoon.

Cook until golden and cooked through on both sides, then remove from the pan. Serve with a sprinkle of salt if age appropriate.

Ingredient Swaps:
Use a dairy-free cheese alternative or omit the cheese if needed (just note the flavour will be milder).
Any all-purpose flour will work here—try spelt, wholemeal, or gluten-free blends.
You can also swap garlic for a pinch of dried herbs like oregano or cumin for variety.
