Combining these two super foods with some freshly squeezed or cold pressed orange juice make for an amazing immune boosting power food that kids actually enjoy – vital coming into the winter!
Immune cod liver oil gummies
GF | DF | EF | NF | RSF
- Saucepan
- Tupperware Container
- knife
- 350 mls juice ((I use a cold pressed orange, carrot and ginger juice))
- 3 tbsp gelatin ((I use @nutraorganics ))
- 1 tsp cod liver oil to start ( (I use 3 tsp in ours but they are quite fishy, my kids don’t mind but if you think yours will then start with 1 tsp – i use this brand))
- 1-2 tbsp raw honey (omit for babies under 1 year)(optional)
- 1 tsp Vitamin C powder (optional)
-
Add juice to a small saucepan
-
Sprinkle the gelatin on top and leave for a minute, you should notice an immediate reaction called ‘blooming’ where the liquid absorbs the gelatin. It will look wrinkly – if this process doesn’t happen for some reason, don’t worry, it should still work!
-
Stir and place saucepan on a low heat, add honey if using, continue to stir until all the gelatin is dissolved and is no longer gritty (about 3-5 minutes)
-
Add the cod liver oil and vitamin C powder if using and stir.
-
Pour the mixture in mould of your choice. For babies under 12 months I would set in a glass rectable ‘tupperware’ style container and once set cut into finger shaped/length pieces
-
Place in fridge to set (will take about an hour)
-
Can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days
AGE APPROPRIATE:
6 months +
Cod Liver Oil contains a beautiful dose of vitamin A, D and DHA (omega 3 fatty acid) all of which support the immune system, bone health, eye health, promote brain function and reduce inflammation. The fat soluble vitamins A and D3 utilise minerals from foods and assists with the colonisation of probiotics in the gut. And the gelatin that makes the gummies is also incredible in boosting immunity and repairing the digestive tract!
Combining these two super foods with some freshly squeezed or cold pressed orange juice (added points for the addition of ginger and carrot and turmeric) make for an amazing immune boosting power food that kids actually enjoy – vital coming into the winter!Note:
The cod liver oil might rise to the top when it sets and be a bit ‘oily’. Babies don’t seem to mind about this though!
I always recommend this cod liver oil.
