Purple Probiotic Smoothie

This smoothie is such a fun way to start the day – bright purple, creamy, and packed with goodness. I love it because it’s one of those recipes that ticks all the boxes: it’s colourful, delicious, gut-loving and gives kids an easy way to enjoy more vegetables.

Using cauliflower and beetroot in a smoothie might sound unusual, but they blend in beautifully with berries and banana to give a sweet, creamy drink that little ones love. The cauliflower is frozen raw, so you can’t taste it but it just adds some extra creaminess – and to make life easier we use precooked beetroot like this which can also be frozen. Plus, the kefir adds a boost of probiotics to help support gut health – something we’re always mindful of when nourishing growing tummies – but if you can’t access kefir, swap it out for some yoghurt.

You can pour it into cups, a SUBO bottle for younger kids (code BOOBTOFOOD to keep away the spills, serve as a smoothie bowl, or even freeze it into ice blocks for a fun snack on warm afternoons. It’s quick, versatile, and a staple in our house.

Age Appropriate: Suitable once your baby is tolerating dairy (if using dairy kefir). For dairy-free families, use coconut kefir or extra milk of choice.

Allergen Note: This recipe can contain dairy depending on the milk and kefir used.
