This easy chia jam is made with just four nourishing ingredients—no refined sugar, no fuss, and perfect for babies, toddlers and the whole family.
We always have a jar of chia jam in the fridge—it’s one of those simple staples that goes with everything. It’s great on porridge, toast, crepes, pancakes, stirred through yoghurt, blended into smoothies or even used as a base for gummies! Soaked chia seeds are also great for constipation!
This recipe is a favourite from our book Milk to Meals, and it’s so easy to whip up with just four wholesome ingredients. There’s no added sugar—just fruit, chia, and a medjool date for natural sweetness.
Whether you’re serving it to a baby just starting out or spreading it on sandwiches for your toddler, this chia jam is a nourishing, gut-loving addition to any meal.

Suitable from 6 months+
Chia is a great source of fibre, omega-3s and plant-based iron, and the texture of this jam is soft and easy to spread or mix into meals.
Serving suggestions:
Swirled into porridge
Spread on pancakes, crepes or toast
Stirred into full-fat yoghurt

Storage tips:
Fridge: Store in a sealed jar for up to 1 week.
Freezer: Freeze into ice cube trays and defrost small portions as needed.
Ingredients
2 cups berries of choice (fresh or frozen)
1 tablespoon water or orange juice
1 medjool date, pitted
2 tablespoons chia seeds
Method
If using frozen berries, place them in a small saucepan over low heat with the water or juice and the date. Simmer gently until the berries are soft and warmed through.
If using fresh berries, add them directly to a blender with the water/juice and date.
Blend the berry mixture until completely smooth.
Pour the mixture into a 300 mL jar and stir in the chia seeds.
Leave the jar on the bench, giving it a gentle shake or stir every 5 minutes to prevent clumping. After about 20 minutes, once it has thickened, transfer to the fridge.
Use within 1 week or freeze in cubes for future use.
Ingredient swaps and notes:
Use any berries—strawberries, raspberries, blueberries or a mix.
Juice can be swapped for water or breastmilk if preferred.
Chia seeds can be white or black—whichever you have on hand.
