This meal is well-balanced, wholesome and perfect for the whole family. It is also a great way to introduce white fish to your little ones. This fish pictured below is a white fish but you could use trout or salmon if you prefer. The green sauce is super versatile and toddler-approved in our household. We often serve it with kangaroo, venison or beef. It’s a great addition to many purees or as a dip for finger food.
Serves 2 adults and 2 kids
Wholesome fish and chips with green sauce and salad
- 450 grams fish fillets (bones removed)
- 4 medium-sized potatoes (cut into wedges)
- olive oil or butter
- salt
Green sauce
- 1/2 bunch dill
- 1/2 bunch parsley
- juice of one lemon
- 2 cloves garlic
- a few good glugs of olive oil
- salt to taste
Simple Salad
- 1 avocado (cut so your toddler can hold)
- 1 cucumber (cut so your toddler can hold)
- Rocket or lettuce
- lemon juice
- olive oil
- salt and pepper (optional)
Drizzle your potatoes with some olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pop them in the oven for roughly 30-40 minutes at 200 degrees celsius.
While the potatoes are cooking, throw all of the green sauce ingredients into a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
Combine Salad ingredients together in a bowl and drizzle with a little lemon juice, olive oil and salt and pepper if you desire.
Pan fry your fish fillets on medium heat with a good glug of olive oil or a knob of butter for 2-3 minutes each side. This will slightly vary depending on the size of your fillets. You want the flesh to flake apart and not be tough.
To serve as a puree, combine a small piece of fish, a tablespoon of green sauce, one or two wedges of potato and a wedge of avocado.
