We love making chia jam to have in the fridge – it goes with so many meals! We use it to top porridge, spread onto crepes or pancakes, on toast or in a sandwich (as pictured on our baby’s first bread from Milk to Meals with labneh) with yoghurt or in a smoothie! It is also great for making gummies!
Its really simple to make and uses just 4 ingredients! This jam recipe is from our book Milk to Meals if you are looking for more simple recipes like this one!
Chia Berry Jam
Ingredients
- 2 cups berries of choice fresh or frozen
- 1 tbsp water or orange juice
- 1 medjool date pitted
- 2 tbsp chia seeds
Instructions
- If using frozen berries, place in a small saucepan over a low heat with the 1 TBSP of water or juice, and the date (if using fresh berries start at step 3)
- Let it simmer over a low heat until the berries are warm and soft.
- Place the berry mixture into a blender (if using fresh berries, add to a blender here with the date and water/juice). Blend until completely smooth.
- Place in a 300mL jar, then add the chia seeds and stir until combined. Leave out on the benchtop and give the jar a shake or stir every 5 or so minutes so the mixture doesnt clump. After 20 minutes you can store it in the fridge, lasts about 1 week in the fridge or you can freeze into ice cubes!
