Wholesome fish and chips with green sauce and salad

About the recipe

This meal is well-balanced, wholesome and perfect for the whole family. It is also a great way to introduce white fish to your little ones. This fish pictured below is a white fish but you could use trout or salmon if you prefer. The green sauce is super versatile and toddler-approved in our household. We often serve it with kangaroo, venison or beef. It's a great addition to many purees or as a dip for finger food.

Serves 2 adults and 2 kids

Wholesome fish and chips with green sauce and salad

  • 450 grams fish fillets (bones removed)
  • 4 medium-sized potatoes (cut into wedges)
  • olive oil or butter
  • salt

Green sauce

  • 1/2 bunch dill
  • 1/2 bunch parsley
  • juice of one lemon
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • a few good glugs of olive oil
  • salt to taste

Simple Salad

  • 1 avocado (cut so your toddler can hold)
  • 1 cucumber (cut so your toddler can hold)
  • Rocket or lettuce
  • lemon juice
  • olive oil
  • salt and pepper (optional)
  1. Drizzle your potatoes with some olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pop them in the oven for roughly 30-40 minutes at 200 degrees celsius.

  2. While the potatoes are cooking, throw all of the green sauce ingredients into a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.

  3. Combine Salad ingredients together in a bowl and drizzle with a little lemon juice, olive oil and salt and pepper if you desire.

  4. Pan fry your fish fillets on medium heat with a good glug of olive oil or a knob of butter for 2-3 minutes each side. This will slightly vary depending on the size of your fillets. You want the flesh to flake apart and not be tough.

To serve as a puree, combine a small piece of fish, a tablespoon of green sauce, one or two wedges of potato and a wedge of avocado.
